What surprises people about Iona? I think people are most surprised by our beautiful campus. It is set in the middle of an urban center, but looks like it could be found anywhere in New England.
When someone leaves Iona, what should they take with them? I think the most important thing is an ability to learn constantly . . .to have a habit of mind to be a lifelong learner--above and beyond anything else. That is the critical element of education today.
How would you account for the close relationship alumni maintain with Iona? Iona alums have an extraordinary relationship with the Christian Brothers and other faculty while they were students here. These students knew the dedication of our faculty extended well beyond the classroom. That sort of relationship pretty well defined their lives in many cases. Their willingness to give back is a direct relationship to that experience.
How would you complete the sentence "Iona life is . . ." Iona life is mission driven and everything we do will have some consequence ten, twenty, thirty years from now and will allow people to be better, not only for themselves, but everyone around them. That in my mind would be the definition of a successful education.
