Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1940. Private, comprehensive, co-ed Catholic college in a suburban setting. Enrollment of 4,400, including 3,100 undergraduate students.



Twenty miles north of Manhattan, the campus includes 35 acres in the center of New Rochelle, New York.

Nineteen major buildings and a large number of smaller buildings, including two new residence halls, two libraries, classroom and administrative buildings, a new arts center, a renovated science center, Division I athletic facilities and a wireless computer network. 

The LaPenta Student Union is the center of student life.  It includes conferences and meeting spaces for student groups, dining lounge, computer labs, tv lounge, game room, night club, expanded bookstore and a multi-purpose room with terrace.  The Hynes Athletic Center provides a huge addition to Iona's athletic facilites. It includes a gym for intramurals, plenty of weight and cardio-training space, a rowing tank, office space and lounges.

Iona's first Rhodes Scholar, Erin Whalen, received the distinguished honor to study at Oxford University in 1999. When Erin was named a Rhodes Scholar, only two other schools in the Northeast had Rhodes Scholars:  Harvard  and Yale.

Iona is one of US News and World Report's "Best Northern Colleges and Universities."
